Mr. Sonstein has tried cases in numerous mass tort litigations including cases against Olympus relating to the CRE Superbug infection that was spread as a result of the manufacturer’s TJF-Q180V Duodenoscope. Mr. Sonstein also represented plaintiffs in cases against Johnson & Johnson’s Ethicon division involving defective surgical staplers and against Roche Pharmaceutical for its role in providing an antimalarial drug to members of the U.S. armed forces that caused severe neuropsychiatric symptoms.

Mr. Sonstein also represented plaintiffs in cases against Allergan resulting from the July 2019 worldwide recall of Allergan BIOCELL® textured breast implants and tissue expanders due to an uncommon incidence of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma (BIA-ALCL), a rare cancer of the immune system. Mr. Sonstein was instrumental in the development of the Allergan cases and filed the first cases in that litigation in 2019.

Mr. Sonstein received his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from Georgia State University where he was only one of two students to receive a departmental distinction in the study of Philosophy. Mr. Sonstein received his law degree from Southwestern Law School and also attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem where he received a Master of Arts degree in Israel Studies.

Mr. Sonstein is licensed to practice law in California and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Eastern Districts of California.
